Is adhesion the same for everybody?

A day between science and practice

Dr. Lorenzo Breschi and Dr. Massimo Fuzzi

Moderator: Dr. Stefano Gracis

  • Definition of adhesive system
  • The influence of the substrates and the different types of dentin
  • Classification of adhesive systems
  • Polymerization lamps
  • What is important in tooth preparation for ceramic inlays/onlays
  • Classification of resin cements
  • Clinical indications of the various cements
  • Indications and clinical step-by-step procedures

  • Is there a difference in adherence to different types of dentin (fresh, coronal, radicular after endodontic treatment, etc.)? If so, do the adhesion protocols need to be changed?
  • What is the step by step procedure for the application of composite resin restorations?
  • Which dentin bonding agents (first and last names) are most reliable?
  • Is the recommendation of using chlorhexidine in adhesion procedures still valid?
  • What role do the curing lights have in obtaining an effective and long-lasting adhesive bond and which ones should not be used?
  • What are the types of resin cements available in the market and how do they differ?
  • Can dual resin cements be used for the cementation of opaque materials?
  • How reliable are the self-etching and self-adhesive cements?
  • For adhesive cementation with resin cements, is the use of the rubber dam required?
  • In less than optimal gingival conditions, which cements may be employed?

Friday, June 17th, 2016 - Opening of DBA Meeting

Introduction to the problems

of articulator mounting and

the development of an occlusal scheme

Dr. Antonello Appiani and Dr. Stefano Gracis

The development of the occlusion

in prosthetic rehabilitations:

Is it a matter of instruments?

Dr. Siggi Marquardt  and  Udo Plaster, CDT

(with translation in Italian from English)

  • How do you combine the need for transfer of esthetic references with the skeletal individualities and the patient’s functional needs?
  • Which facebow and why?
  • Which technique do you use to mount the lower model on the articulator?
  • Which parameters have to be sent to the dental technician to customize as much as possible the articulator and to develop an efficient and stable occlusal design?
  • What influence does the digital workflow have on the efficacy of communication between clinician and technician and on the predictability of the occlusal rehabilitation?

  - Discussion moderated by Dr. Stefano Gracis and Eugenio Bianchini, CDT

Saturday, June 18th 2016 - Conclusion of DBA Meeting

The development of the occlusion

in prosthetic rehabilitations:

Is it a matter of registrations?

Anibal Alonso, CDT

(with translation in Italian from Spanish by Gigi Ivaldi, CDT)

  • When I have to rehabilitate prosthetically a patient, where do I start from? What do I search for? And in what order?
  • Why do the posterior teeth wear down and how do I determine if a patient has lost vertical dimension?
  • Which was the shape and size of the intact natural teeth?
  • In which position will we build them and what are the implications of the different occlusal relationships, cusp-fossa and cusp-marginal ridge?
  • How will the compensation curves be?
  • What will be the height of the anterior teeth and the functional relationship between the maxillary and mandibular ones?
  • If a patient has implants, how do they affect the occlusal perception?
  • Is it mandatory to use a full articulator or one can use also an occluder?
  • How can I verify that the records with which I mounted the models are correct?
  • How do I relate the clinical phases with the laboratory phases and how should the appointments be programmed?
  • After cementation, will the occlusion be like it was on the articulator?
  • After the treatment, does the patient have to wear a bite or occlusal guard?

   - Discussion moderated by Dr. Stefano Gracis and Marco Cossu, CDT
